Abstract: Lichens are widely used in biomonitoring studies of air pollution, either as bioindicators of air quality or as bioaccumulators of atmospheric deposition. Over the past decade, several molecular techniques have been developed to provide information on diversity, genotoxicology, genetic relationships, etc. The heavy metal contents of Evernia prunastri samples were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (RAPD-PCR) method was used to describe the pattern of DNA band variation in the samples influenced by the environmental pollution. The study was designed to describe the level of pollution in an area contaminated with smoke and waste from an iron-steel factory, and to reveal the level of potential genotoxic agents around this source of pollution. The study also examined the suitability of the lichen samples for the detection of genotoxicity.
Steroid-Induced Sigmoid Diverticular Perforation in a Patient with Temporal Arteritis: A Rare Clinical Pathology

Abstract: Corticosteroids are used in the treatment of many rheumatological diseases including temporal arteritis. The gastrointestinal perforation during corticosteroid treatment is a serious complication. Colon perforation after steroid use was first reported by Beck et al in 1950.1 Although the pathophysiological mechanism is not understood clearly, it is claimed that steroids probably by disturbing the intestinal mucosal barrier, facilitate the intestinal perforation. The long term treatment with corticosteroids increases the risk of colon perforation. We are presenting a patient who was taking corticosteroid due to temporal arteritis for two years and operated with sigmoid diverticular perforation.
New Silk Routes: Pipe Lines and Terminal Markets  [PDF]

Abstract:

Energy will be the main determinant of the economic and political relations between the regions and nations during the years to come. The need for energy and the consumption of energy related to this need continues increasingly. The fossil fuels which meet the energy of many of the growing economies in the world, especially Chinabeing in the first place will continue to be the main energy source until the year2050. Intoday’s world, countries are classified as those which have rich reserves of natural resources and which obtain most of their revenues by selling these natural resources, those which have large amounts of consumption of natural resources and which import natural resources in spite of their own natural resources and as those which are dependant on outside resources but are on the route of transmission of natural resources because of their geopolitical positions. Turkey’s place is in the third group.Turkeyis the leading country among the countries which are situated on the route of the transmission of the natural resources.Turkeyis in a geographical region where its neighbors have rich natural resources, and this geographical region has approximately 70% of the fossil fuels which comprise a great deal of the energy needs in the whole world. Therefore, Turkey is at the center of the transmission corridor of the natural resources between the north and the south, and between the west and the east. TheUnited States of Americainstalled itself and settled down in the region at the beginning of the 90’s because of the first Gulf War, and theUnited Stateshas taken steps and some measures in order to support the establishment of new pipeline corridors for the transmission of natural resources. In the background of this support lies the thought and idea that by virtues of these pipelines the natural resources that exist in the Central Asian countries should be transmitted to the western world countries and to the international markets without any need for dependence onRussia. Another idea behind this is to put an end to the dominance of Russia over these countries.

Principios para una ética de la ficción televisiva
Aras,Roberto;
Cuadernos del Centro de Estudios en Dise?±o y Comunicaci?3n. Ensayos , 2012,
Abstract: the overview of television fiction justified to talk about it in terms of moral perplexity and valuation. however, despite the enormous variation of approaches and perspectives on human problems that are presented on screens, almost all share the style of a high emotive commitment and a low demand of criticism.renewing a moral perspective, therefore, requires awareness of the high incidence of models on audiovisual stories to incorporate into its creation, script, editing and production, principles capable of raising the liability profile of these products. so the principles of no instrumentation, hospitality and tolerance appear as the possible ways to start improving the ethical standards of programming.
Suleymaniye: Possible Solutions for a New-Age Spirit - A Phenomenological Approach
Lerzan ARAS
Megaron , 2009,
Abstract: Along the rear of the Unkapan Dry Goods Market and extending to the Bozdo an Arches lies a residential and commercial area where shanty settlements form the ruined historical fabric. The area is too remote from the Süleymaniye Mosque to benefit from the steady tourism. Today, the promising social and architectural configuration of the area seems to be forever lost. Abject poverty in the region, whose residents are either unemployed or can barely support themselves, bears witness to the rapid downfall of the region’s historical texture. Renovation endeavors undertaken by the local government focus on changing the current social structure and revitalizing the history of the area. A group of architectural students have run pilot studies to address the questions of whether it is possible to help the current social structure adapt to the modern age and which criteria and concepts need to be considered when rebuilding the historical structure. Carrying the concepts of equality and universality to a common ground, feeling the “spirit of presence”, superpositioning different and specific identities, and creating discussion platforms of refined sensitivity comprise the core of this article.
Social marketing in healthcare
Radha Aras
Australasian Medical Journal , 2011,
Abstract: BackgroundSocial marketing is an important tool in the delivery ofhealthcare services. For any healthcare programme orproject to be successful, community/consumer participationis required. The four principles of social marketing can guidepolicymakers and healthcare providers to successfully planand implement health programmes.AimTo review the existing literature in order to project thebenefits of social marketing in healthcare.MethodA search of periodical literature by the author involvingsocial marketing and marketing concepts in health wascarried out. Items were identified initially through healthorientedindexing services such as Medline, Health STARand Cinahl, using the identifiers “social marketing“ and“marketing in health”. An extensive search was also carriedout on educational database ERIC.ResultsA literature review of various studies on social marketingindicated that the selection of the right product (accordingto the community need) at the right place, with the rightstrategy for promotion and at the right price yields goodresults. However, along with technical sustainability(product, price, promotion and place), financialsustainability, institutional sustainability and marketsustainability are conducive factors for the success of socialmarketing.ConclusionThe purpose of this literature review was to ascertain thelikely effectiveness of social marketing principles andapproaches and behaviour change communication towardshealth promotion.It is important for all healthcare workers to understand andrespond to the public’s desires and needs and routinely useconsumer research to determine how best to help thepublic to solve problems and realise aspirations. Socialmarketing can optimise public health by facilitatingrelationship-building with consumers and making their liveshealthier.
